The Future of Concrete- Workforce, Technology and Design Advancements

On this episode of Tennessee Concrete Conversations, host Alan Sparkman is joined by Jonathan Dobrei and Nick Edsen of Barton Malow Company to talk about the future of concrete. Jonathan works as a Project Engineer at Barton Malow, and Nick works as a Project Manager.

Together, Alan, Jonathan and Nick begin by discussing the incredible work that Barton Malow has been doing within the industry, particularly their Ultium Cells EV Battery Plant Project. Then, the three discuss Barton Malow’s apprenticeship program which provides opportunities in construction for young people. The program’s goal is to connect with women and minorities, and provide these individuals with a paid opportunity to work on concrete projects. Next, they highlight how tech and design are actively playing a role in shaping the future of the industry. Lastly, they touch on how important it is for people to know about the magnitude of opportunities within the concrete industry – you can start out in the trades and gradually work yourself up in the company.
