A Message from Kaylah White on Women in Construction Week
When I was pursuing my degree in Concrete Industry Management, I noticed that many of my peers built strong professional networks through specific fraternity involvement, yet there was no comparable space for women. In classes of roughly 25 students, I was often one of only a few women, and while this imbalance wasn’t intentional, it highlighted the absence of a dedicated environment where women in the program could connect, share ideas, and develop the long-term professional relationships essential to career growth.
Once I found my place in the construction industry, I felt that it was important to help create that space. That’s why I’ve personally been committed to supporting the National Association of Women in Construction and similar efforts that foster connection, mentorship, and professional growth for both students and those active in the industry.
Women in Construction Week highlights the many contributions women make to our industry while also providing a platform for mentorship and collaboration. It allows those of us who have found success to reach back, share our experiences, and help guide the next generation of professionals.
At the Tennessee Concrete Association, we believe everyone should have a clear and accessible path into the concrete industry, if that’s where they choose to build their career. It’s our responsibility to support and uplift efforts that build those opportunities and strengthen the future of our industry. Supporting Women in Construction Week is one way we continue to invest in the future of our workforce and the long-term success of our industry.
