Skate4Concrete Competition Guidelines & Parameters
Students & Teachers – please read the below carefully. Reach out to Joseph at jmcdaniel@tnconcrete.org with any questions or concerns.
The final module of the S4C curriculum encourages student teams to build their own miniature concrete skateparks. We hope that you will join us for this years S4C Mini Concrete Skatepark Competition hosted on Friday March 13th, 2026 at Middle Tennessee State University! It will be coupled with a tour of the Concrete Industry Management program.
Here are the parameters for this year's competition. We are purposefully keeping parameters to a minimum to give students the freedom to be creative with their design. Each team is allowed to have up to 4 students.
For this competition, student teams will be given scores based on their performance in three aspects of competition, listed below.
- Physical Skatepark Parameters
- Maximum Skatepark dimensions must not exceed 32” long x 32” wide x 16” tall
- Skateparks must be constructed using a concrete material as a main component of the skatepark. Feel free to be creative when using other materials to “dress up” your skatepark, if desired (benches, trees, grass, paint etc).
- Skateparks will be judged on the following criteria for a total of 10 points obtainable:
- Overall Design/appearance - 3 points
- Creativity - 2 points
- Quality of Finish Surface of Concrete - 3 points
- Use of decorative accessories - 2 points
- Three Minute Presentations
- The objective of the presentations is for the students to discuss in depth about their skatepark. Specifically about the design process, construction process, and any noteworthy experiences/challenges they faced during the different stages of the project. Teams may receive bonus points for discussing any important, current concrete industry issues/topics.
- Presentations will be judged on the following criteria for a total of 10 points obtainable:
- Use of allotted time - 1 point
- Clarity/conciseness of presenters - 2 points
- Presenters enthusiasm for their topic - 2 points
- Quality Content and objectives clearly presented - 3 points
- Shared speaking time among teammates - 1 point
- Discussing important, current concrete industry issues/topics - 1 point
- Concrete Quiz Bowl
- Will consist of 20 concrete related questions that will be pulled directly from the Skate4Concrete curriculum
- Each question will be shown on the slide deck and announced allowed.
- The first team to buzz in gets to answer. If correct, the team will receive 1 point. If answered incorrectly, the team will lose a point and the question goes to the next team that buzzes in.
- More points may be given for special questions, or for questions missed by another team.
Scores will be totaled for each team and the team with the highest points wins! Other awards may be given for each category winner.
If you know that you will be competing, please fill out this form ASAP so we can make accommodations for your team! Or, e-mail me at jmcdaniel@tnconcrete.org.
